How does this statement strike you?
“What Matters to You, Matters”
It’s true you know. Sometimes we forget this, or never even knew it was true. You’ll have trouble with this if:
- You grew up worrying about how to please others
- You learned to decide things based solely upon doing the “right thing”
- You lost touch with your own thoughts and feelings.
- You aren’t used to considering yourself in your plans
- You are currently caring for one or more people whose needs are so big that it seems inconceivable to think about what matters to you
- You aren’t used to having others put what matters to you first
These are all valid reasons to struggle with you valuing your own thoughts, feelings, needs, and desires.
However…this doesn’t change the truth…
“What Matters to You, Matters”
Whether you can take action on what matters to you or not… talk to yourself in a kind way about this. Tell yourself,
“What matters to me does matter. I may not be used to listening to my heart and what it’s whispering to me…but it’s not too late to learn. I can start to tune in to my thoughts, feelings, needs, and desires without pressure of having to take action. I can write down what I’m learning I like and don’t like, what calms me and gives me life, what I need to recharge, and what drains me.”
Don’t wait around for someone else to give you permission to listen to and value what your heart is saying. God has put a voice inside you for you to listen to. It’s fine to listen to the needs of others in your life, just make sure you are one of those you’re looking out for too!
Hope this helps,
Kim
